Electrical Panel Suppression Systems

Electrical panel suppression system: a linear pneumatic heat sensor detects fire at its point of origin in electrical panels, UPS and machine cabinets and suppresses it automatically.

In short: An electrical panel suppression system detects fire at its point of origin with a linear pneumatic heat sensor and extinguishes it automatically in enclosed equipment volumes such as electrical panels, UPS rooms, generators and CNC machines. The detection line can be mounted horizontally or vertically. Özaydın Yangın selects the suppression agent according to the protected volume.

01 — Overview

About the system

Our engineering approach to this part of fire safety, and the details that matter.

Electrical panel suppression systems activate at the point where a fire is detected, work automatically and aim to extinguish the fire the moment it starts. In electrical panels, control cabinets and similar enclosed equipment volumes, a fire usually starts at a single point; protection is therefore delivered from inside the equipment.

The system detects in place with a linear pneumatic heat sensor within the protected area. The detection element can be run horizontally or vertically inside the protected volume; this installation flexibility adapts to different panel and cabinet geometries.

It is used in many applications such as electrical panels, IT rooms, machine rooms, UPS rooms, telephone exchanges, generators, EDM machines and CNC machine tools. Which suppression agent and equipment arrangement to use is determined at the design stage according to the volume to be protected.

01

Linear Pneumatic Heat Sensor

A tube-type heat-sensing element that detects in place inside the protected area.

The linear pneumatic heat sensor is a detection line running through the protected volume that senses the heat from a fire at the exact point where it occurs. Only the part of the panel where the fire started reacts, and response begins without waiting for the entire equipment to be affected.

Because the detection line can be run horizontally or vertically, it can be applied in confined volumes such as narrow panel interiors and cabinet compartments.

Automatic Suppression Unit

A self-contained, automatic suppression unit that delivers the agent to the protected volume after detection.

The electrical panel suppression system works automatically to extinguish the fire the moment it starts, carrying out first response in the electrical panel without leaving room for human intervention.

The suppression agent and unit type are designed according to the dimensions of the volume to be protected and the equipment inside. For larger volumes, gas-based suppression systems are considered as a separate solution.

Electrical Room and IT Applications

Early control of fire in electrical panels, IT rooms, UPS rooms and telephone exchanges.

Electrical panels, IT rooms, UPS rooms and telephone exchanges house equipment that is critical for both production and communication continuity when a fire starts. The electrical panel suppression system protects this equipment directly, from the inside.

For building-wide protection, planning it together with detection and alarm systems is recommended so the fire is noticed early and reported to the right people.

Machine, Generator and CNC Applications

In-cabinet fire protection for machine rooms, generators, EDM machines and CNC machine tools.

In equipment such as generators, EDM machines and CNC machine tools, a fire usually starts inside the cabinet or machine compartment. The linear pneumatic heat sensor is placed in these compartments to detect the fire at the point where it forms.

The application for each machine is designed after the site survey, taking into account cabinet dimensions, the equipment's operating arrangement and production continuity requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Electrical Panel Suppression Systems: frequently asked questions

Which equipment is protected by panel suppression?

Panel suppression is used in enclosed equipment volumes where fire usually starts at a single point, such as electrical panels, data rooms, UPS rooms, telephone exchanges, generators, EDM machines and CNC machines. It protects from inside the equipment and handles point fires without interrupting production or communications.

What determines the cost of a panel suppression system?

Cost depends on the number of panels or cabinets to be protected, the dimensions of the volume, the mounting length of the linear pneumatic heat sensor (horizontal or vertical), and the selected suppression agent and unit type. Since a separate gas-based suppression solution may be considered for larger volumes, volume size directly affects which system is right.

How often should a panel suppression system be maintained?

The integrity of the linear pneumatic heat sensor and the function of the automatic suppression unit should be checked periodically. Because dust and heat build-up inside panels can affect sensor sensitivity, regular checks planned together with general electrical panel maintenance are recommended.

How does a panel suppression system work?

The linear pneumatic heat sensor runs through the protected volume as a detection line and senses the heat of a fire at the point where it occurs. On detection, the automatic suppression unit activates and delivers the agent directly to the affected zone; initial suppression is completed without human intervention.

Which standards are panel suppression systems designed to?

The agent and unit type are selected according to the dimensions of the protected volume and the equipment inside, in line with the relevant fire suppression standards. When the system is planned together with building-wide detection and alarm systems, early notification of a fire to the right people becomes more reliable.
