Our fire protection approach on the Bettwelt project

The foam, fiber padding, and fabric raw materials used in mattress and home textile production ignite very quickly and produce dense smoke as they burn. At facilities where different types of these materials are stored together, a fire starting in one section has a high risk of spreading to another. Separate response points therefore need to be planned for each area holding a different material group.

At the Bettwelt Bedding facility, a broad fire protection infrastructure was built with the different material groups used in mattress production in mind. The sprinkler network provides automatic suppression in production areas, while fire hose cabinets and the hydrant system strengthen response options. Along with the pump set and water tank, smoke control, detection and alarm, and emergency evacuation provisions complete the facility's safety.

Arranging foam and padding stock so that it stays within the sprinkler coverage area is specifically reviewed during inspections under the maintenance contract. Periodic tests of the sprinkler system preserve the reliability of the project approved by the fire department.
