Our fire protection approach on the Büyükata Boya project

Solvent- and resin-based raw materials used in paint production can create an explosive atmosphere when they evaporate in an enclosed space. In such areas, localized response systems focused on the exact point where the fire starts are preferred over standard sprinkler solutions, because general water-based response cannot always prevent flame from spreading across the surface of a flammable liquid. A targeted suppression approach that does not extend beyond the boundaries of the risk areas therefore takes priority.

At the Büyükata Boya facility, automatic foam-based suppression was installed for fast, localized response in areas with fire risk. Ceiling-mounted foam suppression cylinders are intended to engage a fire directly and limit flame spread; the foam cuts off oxygen at the surface of the flammable liquid and stops the flame from being fed.

Periodic checks of the fill level and triggering mechanism of the foam suppression cylinders ensure this localized system, approved by the fire department, activates when needed. Regular testing of foam solutions of this kind, which belong to the sprinkler family, under the maintenance contract is recommended.
