Our fire protection approach on the Meka Plastik project
In plastic injection manufacturing, processing the material at high temperature carries a risk of rapid melting and dense smoke in a fire. Raw material granules and semi-finished stock around the production line can let a fire grow in a short time. In these conditions, staff being able to carry out first response quickly plays a decisive role in keeping a fire from getting out of control.
At the Meka Plastik facility, an interior fire water infrastructure was installed for this purpose. Accessible response points were created throughout the facility with fire hose cabinets, while the water reserve and operating pressure the system needs are provided by the fire water tank and fire pump set. This structure offers fast manual response from points close to the production line.
The installation was planned so as not to disrupt the production schedule and completed as a project approved by the fire department. The periodic maintenance contract covering BYKHY (Turkish Fire Protection Regulation) requirements includes regular checks of cabinet and line equipment. The fire hose cabinet system, which staff turn to first, is a priority in this maintenance program.
