Our fire protection approach on the Okandan Cam project
In glass manufacturing, furnace lines operating at high temperature, considered together with the surrounding auxiliary material and packaging warehouses, form an area that requires attention. Packaging and covering materials on the production floor can let a fire grow quickly when combined with heat rise from the furnace. Operating two factory buildings together requires the protection system to be equally strong in both.
At the Okandan Cam facilities (Factories No. 1 and No. 2), water-based safety systems were installed against this risk. Fire hose cabinets provide response capability indoors, while protection around the site is supported by a hydrant line. The fire pump set and water tank secure the water source and pressure the line needs for both factories.
The installation was planned so as not to disrupt the production process and completed as a project approved by the fire department. The system is inspected regularly under a periodic maintenance contract aligned with BYKHY (Turkish Fire Protection Regulation). The fire hydrant line, which provides outdoor assurance between the factories, is a priority in these checks.
