Our fire protection approach on the Retek Kağıt project
Paper production and storage areas form a special risk group because of the high fire load per volume that rolled material carries. A fire that starts among stacked paper rolls can grow internally and quickly thanks to the material's porous structure, and can even reignite after extinguishing. This calls for response capability from many points and on a continuous basis.
At the Retech Kağıt mill, a sprinkler network provides automatic suppression support while fire hose cabinets and outdoor hydrants strengthen manual response. Smoke ventilation, fire detection and emergency exit solutions were added to the pump and tank infrastructure, providing facility-wide protection against the high fire load of rolled paper stock.
The installation was completed with fire department approval, on an installation schedule planned while production and storage continued. The system is inspected regularly under a periodic maintenance contract aligned with BYKHY (Turkish Fire Protection Regulation). The sprinkler system, which provides automatic protection against the high fire load, is a priority in these checks.
